The A1 motorway in Romania is currently under construction,
with the goal of connecting Bucharest to the Banat and Crișana regions in the
western part of the country and further extending to connect with the rest of
Europe.
Upon its full completion, the motorway is anticipated to
stretch 580.2 kilometers, traversing the country in a roughly southeast to
northwest direction. Notably challenging in terms of construction, the Sibiu-
Pitesti section poses the most difficulty due to the necessity of crossing the
Carpathian Mountains, partly following the Olt River Valley.
